Te Uru Rākau, Forestry New Zealand have an upcoming consultation about the Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) Forestry Regulations in Nelson later this week.
There have been substantial improvements to the how the ETS works for forestry have recently been introduced in an Amendment Bill to the Climate Change Response Act 2002, such as averaging accounting for newly registered post-1989 forests, and a new permanent forest category.
Alongside the Bill, Forestry New Zealandare consulting on updates to the Forestry Regulations that cover the operational detail of the changes (for example, how averaging accounting will work in practice, or the exact penalties for clear-felling permanent forest).
There is a Public consultation event running in Nelson this week where the public are invited:
- The public meeting, to help people to engage with the ETS and the change proposals, and all are welcome.
