Tēnā koutou, me ngā mihi o te tau hōu Māori ki a koutou katoa! Ae rā, ko te wā Matariki tēnei, o Puanga rānei.

EVENT DETAILS
Nelson City Council invites our community to join us in celebrating Matariki. Proceedings will be livestreamed via our Facebook page and YouTube channel.
6:00pm – 7:00pm

  • Opening Karakia | Kaumātua
  • Mayor’s Message | Mayor Rachel Reese
  • Kapa Haka Performance | Te Kapa o Kura Tai Waka
  • Light Art Projections
  • Fireworks

The evening will then conclude with a fireworks display from Haulashore Island at approximately 7pm.

FIREWORKS VIEWING LOCATIONS
The fireworks can be enjoyed either via livestream or various locations around the city, such as Wakefield Quay, Rocks Road, Tāhunanui Beach, Princess Drive, Britannia Heights, and Paddy’s Knob. We encourage the public to utilise the bus service, walk, bike, or car-pool to view the display. Please ensure you that you take care on the roads and when parking your vehicle.

We hope that you and your whānau will join us in this winter Matariki celebration as we reflect on the past, acknowledge the present and look forward to the future.
