Last month Ngāti Tama ki Te Waipounamu Trust hosted a Kaumātua Day at Whakatu Marae, in our whare tipuna Kakati

Kaumātua from around the motu came together to attend a one day hui to learn about health literacy and discuss whats important to them in a safe environment.

The day provided health awareness in a holistic and mana enhancing way to create a comfortable space for our Kaumātua while ensuring Tikanga and kawa were maintained.

Iwi invited the NDHB, Te Piki Oranga, iwi Health Board and covered Bowel Screening presented by Tui Lister from Nelson Marlborough DHB, advance care planning by Carla Arkless, also from Nelson Marlborough DHB.

As part of the day taonga were given to our Kaumātua, including a Ngāti Tama Waiata book and CD for spiritual and cultural health. They received rakau with weka feathers for physical health and exercise.

It was a beautiful day with some great kōrero.

Mauri Ora!
