Mō mātou – About us
Ngāti Tama ki Te Waipounamu Trust is a post-settlement entity based in Nelson representing ngā uri o Ngāti Tama ki Te Tauihu. The Ngāti Tama Group through its various entities manages the social, cultural and environment strategies, assets and investment portfolios ranging from fisheries assets through to managed investment funds. The Ngāti Tama Group is responsible for managing and administering the Trust Fund for the benefit of whānau, now and into the future.

  • Ahurea – Stimulate learners of Te Reo, Tikanga and whakapapa.

Mō te tūranga mahi – About the role

You will lead and implement the Ahuwhenua strategic priorities to enhance our significant lands and waterways by promoting Mātauranga Māori in Kaitiakitanga and environmental management. Your work will involve the collation of Ngāti Tama kōrero to ensure that there are effective and inclusive approaches to Ngāti Tama engagement across the Crown/council agents. You will also provide support and advocacy for whānau participation in local Kaitiakitanga as part of developing and maintaining Te Tiriti partnerships to actively promote Ngāti Tama customary interests. Working alongside other Pou Taiao of Te Tauihu iwi as appropriate, you will work to ensure that Deed of Settlement instruments related to te taiao are monitored and implemented.

Mōu – About you

You will be a confident and capable communicator in both written and oral, who is at ease in both whānau settings and interactions with crown agents. A strong knowledge of Ngāti Tama issues of significance related to te taiao is highly desirable and a working understanding of the machinery of govt will be an advantage.

The Ideal Candidate will have the following:

  • Previous experience in Māori environmental management and kaitiakitanga roles
  • Knowledge of and understanding of New Zealand Resource Management legislation and associated environmental policy and law, would be an advantage.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build and maintain relationships
  • Awareness of Ngati Tama ki te Tauihu history and sites of significance
  • Working knowledge and application of mātauranga māori
  • Experience working with Council and crown entities
  • Report writing, research and facilitation
  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant field is preferred
  • Fluency in oral and written Te Reo and English is highly desirable.
