Establishment of Ngāti Tama ki Te Waipounamu Trust
Ngāti Tama ki Te Waipounamu Trust was formed to represent the Uri o Ngāti Tama who whakapapa to Te Tau Ihu o Te Waka-ā-Maui (top of the South Island). The Trust was established in April 2013. (Click here to view the Trust Deed).
The Trust was established to receive, hold, manage and administer the Trust Fund for the benefit of Ngāti Tama ki Te Tau Ihu .
Ngāti Tama ki Te Waipounamu Trustees comprised of:
- Three General Trustees, who must be registered with Ngāti Tama ki Te Tau Ihu and reside in New Zealand; and
- Four Rohe Trustees, who must be registered with Ngāti Tama ki Te Tau Ihu, and reside within Te Tau Ihu.
All Trustees represent the interests of ALL registered members of Ngāti Tama ki Te Waipounamu Trust, irrespective of where they reside.
This Trust will receive all Treaty of Waitangi settlement assets, and via settlement legislation takes ownership of all assets of the previous Ngāti Tama Manawhenua ki Te Tau Ihu Trust.
