We are capturing whānau information in our first official member count. It takes a snapshot of our registered iwi members in New Zealand, abroad and the places where we live. This census and will be done regularly to help understand how our iwi changes over time. We encourage all our members 13 years and older to participate, if you have rangatahi in your household who are Ngāti Tama, please get them to complete the census.
This information will help inform Ngāti Tama’s strategic direction for the next 10 years in areas such as education, health, housing and Te Reo me ōna Tikanga to name a few.

What is the Ngāti Tama census?
The census is the official Ngāti Tama ki Te Tauihu member count. It takes a snapshot of our registered iwi members in New Zealand, abroad and the places where we live. This is the first Ngāti Tama ki Te Tauihu census.
Ngāti Tama census information is needed for future strategic planning in areas such as education, health, housing, Te Reo me ōna Tikanga and others. It is also used to help understand how our iwi changes over time and help our current Trustees make decisions on future planning.
How is my information kept confidential?
The information you provide is protected by the Privacy Act 1993 and must be kept confidential by Ngāti Tama ki Te Waipounamu Trust. Ngāti Tama census information can only be used for statistical purposes and must be reported in a way that cannot identify you.
The only people who have access to your personal information are those authorised by the General Manager.
Is the census compulsory?
No. But we encourage you and your whānau who are registered with us to complete this form so that Ngāti Tama ki Te Waipounamu Trust can continue to provide effective support and services to our members.
Who should complete the form?
All current and pending members of Ngāti Tama ki Te Waipounamu Trust, including rangatahi aged between 13-17.
Can I complete the form if I’m not a registered member of Ngāti Tama ki Te Tauihu?
All completed forms will be validated to ensure that only Ngāti Tama ki Te Waipounamu Trust iwi members are counted as part of the survey.
If a participant is not registered their census cannot be included. A participant can complete an iwi registration form as part of submitting their census to ensure their responses are included in the count.
What do I have to do?
The census will be open from Friday 12th June and iwi members will have until Sunday 19th July 11:59pm to complete the form. Ngāti Tama census forms can be completed online or on the paper forms delivered to your dwelling.
Complete the form individually and to the best of your ability.
What happens to my forms once I’ve filled them in?
If you have completed your forms online or the paper form, you don’t need to do anything. The paper forms will include a freepost envelope where you can return the form by freepost.

Your information and data will be held on our secure Ngāti Tama systems until they are updated by the individual.
Can I edit my responses?
Yes you can. Use the same email address when entering the census to edit your responses on the Ngāti Tama census. If you need support, contact the office.
What happens after the Ngāti Tama census?
A Ngāti Tama staff member may call on you soon after the census. You will be asked questions that will help us know how well the census counted everyone.
We will also use census responses to select people for a survey after the census.
Census results will be released from October 2020.

Security and confidentiality of Ngāti Tama census forms
Whether you complete the census online or on paper, Ngāti Tama ki Te Waipounamu Trust have safeguards and procedures to ensure the security and confidentiality of your information.
Online forms
We checked and tested these systems and processes to ensure they are robust, to meet our commitment to store information securely. When you submit your form, it is secure within our system. The information you enter will remain under secure systems only accessible by approved people within Ngāti Tama ki Te Waipounamu Trust. Ngāti Tama Census data is stored in data centres in the Ngāti Tama ki Te Waipounamu Trust cloud.
Paper forms
We issue all paper forms with a mail back envelope. When they arrive back at the Ngāti Tama offices they will be scanned, and we store the information from a paper form as an image and securely store the paper form in a secure lock up. We restrict access to these forms to a limited number of Ngāti Tama staff.

Ngāti Tama ki Te Waipounamu Trust confidentiality policy states that all employees will comply with the Privacy Act 1993 and its amendments including the organisation and employees to comply with the Acts provisions with regard to the collection, use, disclosure, storage and access to personal information.
